January 1st, 2009 the NHL will hold their second Winter Classic game and Chris Osgood will be wearing custom new pads unlike the NHL has ever seen. Made by Brians (former company of deceased goalie guru Brian Heaton), the new pads have a retro look (i.e. brown pads) including the “waffle board” blocker. The logo the Red Wings will wear on their jersey will be featured on the pads/gloves as well. Rumor, as well, is Wings back-up Ty Conklin will wear these as well.
It appears Brians Custom Manufacturing is gearing up to make a run to regain their market share (they dominated in the 1990′s and yours truly loved them) and having a goalie wear them during the most-watched game of the season should help.
