For those of you who think energy drinks will help you before you jump on the ice, you have many better alternatives to choose from.
Water is the key. Should drink lots of water the night before the game, during game day and before getting on the ice.
Another great idea that is not addressed in this video is the drinking of chocolate milk after a game. Not kidding. Joel M. Stager, PhD, from Indiana University in Bloomington and co-author of a recent study, said, “Chocolate milk contains an optimal carbohydrate to protein ratio, which is critical for helping refuel tired muscles after strenuous exercise and can enable athletes to exercise at a high intensity during subsequent workouts.” Article linked – http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/524370.
Teams I have coached have used chocolate milk after games for the past two years during tournaments and the results have been impressive particularly if there is a game later in the day or first thing in the morning after a night game. Plus… you can’t beat the taste….
